Background
The Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation (DEPC) is implementing the GEF‑6 funded Expanding Conservation Areas Reach and Effectiveness (ECARE) Project, with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as its implementing agency.
The project was established in July 2023 and focuses on the profiling and strengthening of protected and conservation areas in the provinces of Sanma, Malampa and Shefa.
ECARE focuses on Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), Special Unique Marine Areas (SUMAs), and community conservation areas.
